9. Oakland

Oakland is about to lose the Raiders, for the second time, and moving to Las Vegas will be a point of no return that Los Angeles could not be within the same state. A rabid fan base supported a losing team for many years after a Super Bowl appearance, so it’s disappointing the Raiders are leaving to start a new era as their upward trajectory starts.

The lack of a solution for a new stadium, which would likely have prevented the Raiders from continuing to share a dilapidated, outdated venue with the Oakland Athletics, played a huge role in the team’s league-approved move from Oakland to Vegas. That would need to change for the NFL to seriously consider Oakland for an expansion team down the road, but it should not be out of the question at some point in the future.

Oakland may simply be a dead-end for the NFL until further notice, or perhaps forever all things considered, with the Raiders now set to vacate a second time as the No.1 reason. But the Bay Area has supported two teams before, and it obviously can, will and should again at some point in the future.
