2. Mexico City

Playing games in Mexico has become cool again for the NFL, with a successful regular season contest in Mexico City last year and another on the schedule this year. It’s probably only a matter of time before multiple preseason and regular season games are staged in Mexico, in multiple cities that are deemed suitable, so a new NFL franchise there may not be all that far behind.

Outside of any possible concerns crossing a border into another country, and any players trying to skirt travel rules, there would be no substantial issues with time zones and travel attached to having an NFL team in Mexico. Mexico City is on Central time in the United States.

Security concerns and possible infrastructure shortcomings could be barriers to the NFL putting a team in Mexico. But those issues may ultimately be small potatoes on a bigger plate of potential for the league, and thus easily written off or dismissed as the costs of doing business. The NFL can step in, take over and influence any possible roadblocks before they become full-blown problems.

Like Las Vegas is sure to be, but probably to a smaller degree, Mexico could become a place NFL fans travel to see their favorite team play a road game. Fans in colder climates would surely see the benefit of giving a December vacation an NFL tint.
