Michael Floyd will have a home for the 2017 NFL season, as he signed a one-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings on Wednesday.
It looks as if Michael Floyd will have a home for the 2017 NFL season after all, after signing with the Minnesota Vikings on a one-year deal on Wednesday. The former first round pick of the Arizona Cardinals has let off the field issues get in the way of his playing time as of late and will now join his third team in under 12 months. After being released by the Cardinals due to a DUI charge during the season, Floyd latched on with the New England Patriots but was not much of a factor in their Super Bowl run.
Staying with the New England Patriots, the team used a seldom used tender on star running back LeGarrette Blount on Wednesday. The tender placed on Blount states that he must stay with the Pats if he does not find a new team by July 22 or if he sits out past Week 10. Under the tender, Blount would stand to make $1.1 million in 2017. Blount led the NFL with 18 rushing touchdowns last season.
Despite the fact that he blew out his knee during the Fiesta Bowl during his last game at Notre Dame, the Dallas Cowboys selected linebacker Jaylon Smith in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft. It has been a long road back for the former standout for the Fighting Irish, but despite reports to the contrary, he says he will be ready for Week 1. Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones doubled down on Smith’s comments, stating that the youngster will be a franchise player for the organization for years to come.
Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick cannot find work despite the fact he put up solid numbers in 2016, but his counterpart with the team inked a new deal on Wednesday. Blaine Gabbert, who started the season as the top guy in San Fran last year, signed a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals on Wednesday. A former first round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, Gabbert will battle with Drew Stanton for the backup job behind Carson Palmer on a Cardinals team that should be very good in 2017.

Finally, it appears that Julius Peppers is like a fine wine. Peppers went back to his original team this offseason, as he bolted Green Bay for the Carolina Panthers. Defensive line coach Eric Washington told panthers.com that the Pro Bowl defensive end looks dynamic and that he did in fact age very well. Peppers will look to lead the Panthers back to the playoffs in 2017, after missing out on a return trip to the Super Bowl last season.
