Former Clemson quarterback, and current Houston Texan Deshaun Watson signed his rookie contract Friday afternoon.

The Texans and their 2017 first-round draft choice, Deshaun Watson, agreed to terms on a contract Friday afternoon. The contract with Houston is reportedly worth $13.854 million, with a signing bonus of $8.215 million, per Kevin Patra of Around the NFL.

The Texans traded up from the 25th pick all the way up to the 12th pick with the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft, to nab their quarterback of the future. Watson had a remarkable college career at Clemson where he threw for over 10,000 yards, connected on 90 touchdown passes, and led the Tigers to a national championship this passed season.

Although Houston gave up a lot to draft the über-talented Watson, they still plan on beginning the season with Tom Savage as their starting quarterback. Texans’ head coach Bill O’Brien seems adamant on bringing Watson along slowly, but a good training camp and preseason could change the coaches mind.

Savage started two games last season for the Texans, but was rather unimpressive by passing for only 460 yards between the two games, and no touch down passes. However, Houston still ended up winning both of those games.

The Texans have a solid defense, and have exceptional weapons on the offensive side of the ball as well. They have been a playoff team for the last two seasons, despite their inconsistent play at the quarterback position. Although Watson is still a rookie, he is the more talented quarterback between him and Savage.

Watson was a proven winner at Clemson, and he put up amazing numbers against the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide, who boast plenty of NFL talent. Watson’s mobility also gives his game another leg up over Savage.
