The viral photo of a naked man laying on the back of a shark is no longer a mystery. Florida football coach Jim McElwain is vindicated.

You have to admit, it was funny. Truly, it is still. A photograph of a man laying fin-down on a shark made the rounds of the internet after being posted last weekend. It did not take long before the mystery man in the photo was speculated to be Florida head football coach Jim McElwain.

The resemblance to McElwain is clear, though I am not sure anyone wants to see that much of him. Nor are we going to not picture him in this photo when college football season commences. But, the man who wore nothing but a huge smile while embracing his catch is now known.

And, to many people’s dismay, it is not McElwain. Turns out, it is formerly one of New York’s finest. That is right, it was a police officer.

Sports anchor David Pingalore, from WKMG in Orlando cleared the air on Friday during a radio show. A viewer of Pingalore’s newscast sent the anchor the non-nude photos of the man in question.

"I have the actual pictures of the actual naked man and I’m waiting on permission to use the pictures. I have [photos of] the man that’s fully clothed, that’s naked on the shark, that’s on the boat. Yes, normal photographs"

Well that may be too much information for me, but given the situation, it would be unbearable to not know. But, come September, every time we see a smile from McElwain, this photo will come to mind.

I still smell something fishy. We may have reached the bottom of this mystery, but there could be more than what we can see with our naked eye.
