Washington Wizards All-Star guard John Wall didn’t mince words after the game about the Boston Celtics wearing all black before Game 6.

It is not the first time, nor will it be the last, that an opponent will try to play mind games before play begins. Much of the time, this turns into bulletin board material, fodder for one team to motivate themselves over the other.

Call it gamesmanship. Maybe it is for your team, or a statement towards the other team. Whatever it is, it better work. It did not for the Boston Celtics.

Coming into Game 6 tonight in Washington, the Celtics looked to finish off the Wizards and move on to the Eastern Conference finals. As the Celtics came into the arena, they all wore black — the common look of those attending a funeral and mourning what once was. On this night, it was planning on the future funeral of the Wizards.

I guess they forgot to tell the Wizards about their part in the story, or at least John Wall. With his team down two points and under 10 seconds left, Wall drilled a three-pointer and gave the Wizards the win. Game 7 will be played and the Wizards cheat their forecasted doom.

After the game, Wall did not miss the chance to throw it back at the Celtics.

Moral of the story is that gamesmanship does not matter when you have ice in your veins. Want to get under the skin and in the head of your opponent? Give it a try. Just do not expect them to go down without a fight.
