It was reported yesterday that Alex Ovechkin was playing in the playoffs with an injured knee and hamstring. Today there is more to add to the story, courtesy of Ovechkin’s wife.

The news on the Alex Ovechkin injury now has more details added to it. Ovechkin’s wife, Nastya Ovechkin, shared a picture of what is surely a brutal hamstring injury. The bruising in the picture shows just how badly damaged the muscle, and the leg as a whole, were for the series against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

There was no word on whether or not the bruising was suffered from the knee-to-knee hit that Ovechkin suffered at the hands of Nazem Kadri. If it is from that hit, that means that Ovechkin played the remainder of that series and all seven games against the Penguins with a severely damaged hamstring.

This could explain his lack of production during the second round.

The injury wasn’t listed as anything more than a lower body injury until yesterday morning. Oleg Znarok, the head coach of Team Russia stated the extent of the injury. He spoke about how Ovechkin was invited to the IIHF World Championship but was unable to attend due to his injury suffered during the playoffs.

Znarok proceeded to state that Ovechkin was suffering from a rather severe knee and hamstring injury. The picture from the wife of Ovechkin shows just how bad the hamstring issue he was facing really was.
