A new partnership between Loot Crate and Topps has put special edition baseball cards in Sports Crate boxes.

In collecting anything, scarcity is a major factor for determining value. Topps Sports Crate cards definitely excel at providing that element of collectability thanks to a new partnership between the two companies.

The 50-card set is evenly dispersed at five cards for each of the 10 MLB teams that are featured in Sports Crate’s launch. It’s another way for Topps to present its product to potential consumers.

“We’re really excited to work with Sports Crate and provide exclusive Topps trading cards to their boxes,” Topps marketing communications manager Susan Lulgrujaj said. “When you think of baseball, you think of baseball cards, so it was a natural fit.”

Chasing the entire 50-card set will be difficult for collectors. Unless collectors can find the cards they lack on the secondary market, collectors would have to subscribe to all 10 teams’ boxes to get all 50 cards. That would run a potential customer either $400 per month or $1,800 for the season.

That scenario is unlikely, whether it’s because of collectors’ unwillingness to pay the price for a subscription to all 10 team boxes or because subscribers are unwilling to put their cards on the secondary market. What’s more likely is that current Sports Crate subscribers should be pleased with the additional value to their subscriptions that the Topps cards create.

“Collecting Topps baseball cards is an American baseball tradition,” said Doug Wadleigh, senior vice president and general manager of Sports Crate. “By collaborating with Topps to include exclusive card sets and foil special edition cards in our team-focused subscriptions, Sports Crate is playing a key role in passing down this tradition to the next generation of baseball fans.”

This collaboration has the potential to introduce Topps baseball cards to new collectors along with incentivize card collectors to subscribe to Sports Crate so they can get the exclusive cards. While both companies stand to benefit, the real winners are the fans who collect MLB cards and gear.
