Verizon IndyCar Series standings after IndyCar Grand Prix
Simon Pagenaud retains his title lead, but Scott Dixon is closing the gap. Here are the Verizon IndyCar Series standings after the IndyCar Grand Prix.
Simon Pagenaud’s fifth-place finish in the IndyCar Grand Prix was good enough for him to hold onto the IndyCar championship lead, but four-time champion Scott Dixon has narrowed his deficit to just 10 points after Saturday’s race.
Pagenaud and Dixon have now separated themselves from the rest of the league as they’re the only two drivers with more than 160 points earned thus far in the 2017 season. While the three names at the top of the standings remain the same, the rest of the Top 5 has changed entirely in the wake of Indianapolis.
Helio Castroneves has moved from sixth to fourth and Will Power’s well-deserved victory in the Grand Prix punts him from seventh to fifth. James Hinchcliffe drops one spot to sixth while Sebastien Bourdais, the former points leader through the first two races, falls two spots to seventh place overall.
Tony Kanaan and Ed Jones also lost their places in the Top 10, which is now rounded out by Ryan Hunter-Reay and his Andretti Autosport teammates Alexander Rossi and Takuma Sato.
But it’s worth noting that only eight drivers have reached 100 points yet. Everyone else is very closely matched going into the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500, which will offer double points as usual.
