Over the course of the day, many athletes flocked to social media to wish their mom a happy Mother’s Day.

No man can rely more on one woman than their own mother. It’s an established bond since birth. It’s also a bond that’s unbreakable, unshakable and, most importantly, immeasurable. For most professional male athletes, a mom is the woman behind the man – from taking their son to early morning practices to paying for their first basketball camp. On Mother’s Day, many male athletes reached out to their inspiration, thanking them for the support, while also wishing them a good day.

Male athletes, like LeBron James and Joel Ward, spread their love for their moms on Twitter. By doing so, they’re not only showing pride for their respective moms on an intimate level, but their letting the world know. And personally, that’s kind of cute and it takes a truly grown man to publicly convey himself as a momma’s boy.

To celebrate Mother’s Day is to give praise to the one who brought these men into the world. After all, it’s no easy task being a mom. It’s certainly quite an adventure worth going through on both sides of the plate. For some moms, that adventure included phone calls during the NFL Draft. For other moms, that meant hauling your son back-and-forth to baseball tryouts.

What ever the need may have been, mom came through for these professional male athletes. Moms have also come through on other occasions outside of sports. They’re a shoulder to cry on, a number to call and, in some cases, the best teacher. And quite frankly, Mother’s Day isn’t enough. Moms, of all ages and experiences, deserve a gesture of thanks around the clock. They also are worthy of everyday mention – whether they’re the mom to your children or a mother to you.
