A Nashville Predators fan continued a tradition by throwing a huge catfish on the ice before Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals.

Nashville is a bit of a weird city. It has its quirks, which is why it’s such an awesome city. This quirkiness has passed on to the Nashville Predators. Their fans have a tradition of throwing catfish onto the ice before each game. It’s not much different from Detroit Red Wings’ fans throwing octopi. While it’s weird, it’s also a perfect summary of Nashville. A proud Preds fan was bold enough to continue the tradition in Anaheim.

FanSided’s Predators blog PredLines gives a bit of context to the weird, but hilarious, tradition.

"Back in 2002 season,  fans began to throw catfish onto their home ice, in response to the hated Red Wings tradition. The first fresh catfish to hit the ice was against the Red Wings in October of 2002.  It has grown into a Playoff tradition since then."

The Preds used to have a heck of a rivalry with the Red Wings. Sadly, thanks to Detroit’s move to the Eastern Conference, tempers have died down a bit between the two teams. But both teams shared mutual disdain for each other for years thanks to some fierce battles in April and May.

Nashville fans also did this in Game 1, an overtime win for the Preds. So why not keep it going in Game 2? It appears the catfish brings them luck on the road, as Nashville is up 2-1 after the first period of Game 2.

The Ducks are trying to avoid going down 2-0 with the series heading to Tennessee after Game 2. There, Anaheim will get a first-hand experience of what it’s like to be in an arena that rains catfish. Because that’s how they do things in Nashville.
