21-year old South Korean Si Woo Kim submitted a fantastic performance at Sawgrass to become the youngest winner at THE PLAYERS Championship

When you look back at the history of THE PLAYERS Championship at Sawgrass and the past champions, you’re essentially looking at a who’s who of the PGA Tour of the past 30-or-so years. However, we can now add a new name to that list. Si Woo Kim might not be among the so-call who’s who, but this might be the starting point for him to get there.

The 21-year old South Korean actually turned pro back in 2012. However, he’d only found marginal and inconsistent success since playing his first PGA Tour event in 2013. Kim won the Wyndham Championship in 2016 in Greensboro, NC. However, that was the only win on his resume to date. What’s more, he’d missed the cut in seven of the 18 events he’d played entering THE PLAYERS.

That’s the thing about Sawgrass, though. The fifth major is where stars are made and Kim may have started that. He played the most consistent golf of anyone in the field on a weekend marred by highs and lows for most players. In the end, that put him at 10-under — the only player in the field to go double digits under par — and taking home the win.

In doing so, Kim became the youngest winner of THE PLAYERS Championship in history. At just 21 years old, to see your name put alongside the likes of Adam Scott, Sergio Garcia, Jason Day (from last year) and of course Tiger Woods, that has to be a strong confidence booster moving forward.

With that being said, the next step for Kim is adding that consistency from tournament-to-tournament to his game. We’ve seen his best now, and it was better than the top golfers in the world in winning THE PLAYERS. Now it’s about getting closer to that level each time on the course.
