Kansas City Chiefs’ 2017 first-round pick quarterback Patrick Mahomes was robbed at gunpoint on Friday night in his hometown of Tyler, Texas.
A scary situation went down on Friday night involving Kansas City Chiefs rookie quarterback Patrick Mahomes in his hometown of Tyler, Texas. According to Kris Kirst of KYTX/CBS 19 in Tyler, Texas, Mahomes and three other people were robbed at gunpoint on Friday night.
The incident occurred in Smith County, where Tyler is the county seat at around 9:15 p.m. ET. Kirst writes that “the victims reported they were approached by two suspect while exiting a vehicle at the [Mansion Creek Circle] residence. One of the suspects ‘was seen gesturing as if he had a handgun in his waistband.”
After getting information on description of the vehicle that the suspects used to get away from the victims, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office made two arrests in the aftermath of the situation. Items that had been stolen from Mahomes and company was found in the vehicle the Smith County Sherrif’s Office located.
Thankfully, Mahomes and none of the other victims were harmed in the aggravated robbery. It’s an on-going investigation, but a troubling one. Here’s this 21-year-old who’s probably hanging out in his childhood home or at a friend’s house and two guys waited to rob the Chiefs’ franchise quarterback at gunpoint.
Mahomes is on all accounts a good kid. This whole incident is just weird and unfortunate. Kansas City decided to make Mahomes the first first-round quarterback the football organization has drafted since Todd Blackledge out of Penn State back in 1983.

Mahomes starred collegiately for the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Big 12. Though he is very much an Air Raid quarterback, Mahomes’ arm talent is simply undeniable. If he can get his footwork down and understand the intricacies of a pro-style offense, he could a very special NFL quarterback for the Chiefs.
