Alien: Covenant is about to hit theaters, but how soon will moviegoers be able to see it?

The spring usually features plenty of big-name movie franchises churning out their latest films. This has been seen with The Fate of the Furious  and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy coming out in April and May, respectively. The next one to follow these will be Alien: Covenant, the latest movie in the Alien series.

The Alien movie franchise stretches back to the 1970s, with Alien coming first. This was followed by Aliens (1986), Alien 3 (1992) and Alien: Resurrection (1997).

After a 15-year absence, the latest film in this series, Prometheus, debuted in 2012. Rotten Tomatoes proclaimed it Certified Fresh with a 72 percent rating.

As for Alien: Covenant, it’s looking to get an even stronger critical reaction, when it hits theaters. It’s already starting off well on Rotten Tomatoes, so we could be in store for a successful box office hit. This will have a cast featuring Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup and Danny McBride, among others.

This is the official synopsis for the movie, via the 20th Century Fox YouTube account:

"Ridley Scott returns to the universe he created, with Alien: Covenant, a new chapter in his groundbreaking Alien franchise. The crew of the colony ship Covenant, bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world. When they uncover a threat beyond their imagination, they must attempt a harrowing escape."

Alien: Covenant already had its world premiere on May 5, in London, England, along with other preview showings. However, it will be available for all moviegoers on Friday, May 19 — meaning there will be showings as early as 7 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, May 18. This should draw plenty of reaction once everyone is able to view it in theaters, along with seeing where it will place in the Alien franchise.
