After reports of interest in acquiring Colin Kaepernick as a backup quarterback, one of the Seattle Seahawks’ biggest voices came out in favor of picking him up.
During an interview with Michael Clayton and Gee Scott of 710 ESPN Radio, Michael Bennett attempted to pitch Colin Kaepernick on the idea of joining the Seahawks.
And it appears he might be getting somewhere.
"“I think that Kaepernick getting the opportunity to be on our team would be really cool, would really be a good place for him because you have a coach like coach [Pete] Carroll who is up for challenges like that. You have an owner who spends and gives back to the homeless. You’ve got players on your team that give back in the community… So this is a perfect place for him.”"
These words from Bennett come amid reports Monday that head coach Pete Carroll is interested in adding the 29-year-old quarterback to the roster.
The Seahawks are the only specific team that is confirmed to be interested in Kaepernick. However, three teams inquired about the 2011 second-round pick, according to USA Today.
Bennett voiced his support for Kaepernick’s protest of kneeling during the national anthem last season, as well. Additionally, noted Seahawks such as Bobby Wagner, Cliff Avril and Doug Baldwin, also supported Kaepernick.
According to Ian Rapaport of NFL.com, the Seahawks’ current starting quarterback, Russell Wilson, also supports the acquisition.
Kaepernick simply makes sense for the Seahawks as a backup quarterback . He is great at the read-option, making him valuable in certain scenarios. Also, he is tremendously versatile.
