New Sonic Forces trailer introduces custom characters
It looks like Sonic the Hedgehog won’t be the only playable character in Sonic Forces. A new trailer shows that we’ll be able to create our own custom characters.
Sega and Sonic Team seem committed to create another good Sonic game. The last couple of years haven’t been very good to the series, but they’re hoping to get back on track with Sonic Forces. So far, everything we’ve seen does look promising. It looks like the game is returning to its roots, which what we’ve been wanting for years now. That being said, they’re also introducing new gameplay mechanics and features. The newest addition? Custom characters.
Since the beginning, we’ve known that we’ll be able to play as two Sonics as part of two modes: Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic. As you can tell by the name, Classic Sonic mode focuses on the side-scrolling, platformer style that we grew up playing with games like Sonic the Hedgehog. Modern Sonic reverts back to the most recent style of gameplay. It’s a 3D platform mode with better visuals and different angles of gameplay.
Apparently, these won’t be the only two Sonics from which to choose. In a new trailer, we see that we’ll be able to create our own custom hero and play as our very own Sonic. It sounds a bit strange, but also interesting.
Check it out below:
Check out the official description from the YouTube video, which explains a bit more as to why we’ll be able to do this:
"In a world where Eggman has taken over, even two Sonics will need some help. for the first time in the series’ history, create and play as your own custom character in the war to take back the planet."
If we’re getting anything from the story, Sonic has never been in this predicament. He’ll need all the help he can get, and according to IGN, there are a variety of character types to choose from.
For example, there’s Bear, which blows away enemies with a homing attack. There’s also Rabbit, which has longer invincible time after receiving damage.
Finally, check out this new gameplay video, which features a custom hero in action:
