Tom Brady says Joe Montana remains GOAT
There will always be a debate over who is actually the greatest quarterback in the National Football League.
In this current generation, Tom Brady has an argument for that accomplishment. But Brady himself thinks that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Joe Montana has earned that distinction, as he revealed in a recent interview with ESPN’s Ian O’Connor.
Despite many believing Brady is the greatest quarterback to ever play, the 39-year-old doesn’t see it. Instead, Brady credits an incredible group around him, ranging from owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick to the players who share in his Super Bowl rings.
The New England Patriots have five Super Bowl rings under Brady, and are chasing number six as the favorite in 2017. And he realizes what it means for him personally, telling O’Connor his thoughts on the matter.

"“I don’t agree with that, and I’ll tell you why. I know myself as a player. I’m really a product of what I’ve been around, who I was coached by, what I played against, in the era I played in. I really believe if a lot of people were in my shoes they could accomplish the same kinds of things. So I’ve been very fortunate. … I don’t ever want to be the weak link.”"
Statistically, Brady has surpassed Montana in countless categories, both in the regular season and playoffs. It leaves one to wonder if a game could be played using Brady’s best team and Montana’s best team, who would emerge victorious?
Now that Brady has passed Montana, he will chase another sports icon that has the argument of GOAT… Michael Jordan. The Bulls captured six NBA titles with Jordan, which leaves Brady one Super Bowl ring away from that number. And you can bet he’ll likely tie that mark before he rides off into the sunset.
