Isaiah Thomas gets brave, tries to stop freight train LeBron James (Video)
We saw the mismatch of LeBron James and Isaiah Thomas a few times in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals, but nothing quite like this block attempt.
LeBron James had a dominant performance in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Boston Celtics, and it seemed like no one could even stop them no matter how hard they tried. However, it doesn’t mean no one did attempt to stop him.
Late in the blowout, James was still going strong after dropping 23 points in the first half alone, and played through for as long as he could. In the fourth quarter, James went to work on Jae Crowder, and drove to the lane hard for a layup attempt to add to his stats for the night. James got past Crowder, spun by Gerald Green, and went in hard to the lane.
In the meantime, Celtics guard Isaiah Thomas, standing at 5-foot-9, went up hard against the 6-foot-9 James, and the foot difference in height created a truly magical moment at TD Garden. Thomas went hard trying to stop James on the attempt, but couldn’t get much higher than The King’s stomach on the jump.
Thomas lost his headband in the process for his troubles, and James fell hard to the floor after the miss. Thomas got a foul called on him for the attempt, but at least stopped James from a thunderous dunk or solid layup attempt. You have to give Thomas some props for trying, but how worth it was it in the end?

The Cavaliers took Game 1 easily from the Celtics, even with the lack of home-court advantage, and look like they’re on a rapid pace for another rematch with the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals. However, even in their worst losses, it looks like the Celtics won’t be going down without a fight against the second-seeded Cavs.
