Penguins go down 4-0 early to Senators, including embarrassing own goal (Video)
The Senators must be sick of the low scoring games in the Eastern Conference finals, but they got some help from the Penguins in the first period, too.
The Pittsburgh Penguins must have had some trouble traveling to play on the road against the Ottawa Senators, as they fell behind 4-0 early in the first period of Game 3.
The Senators jumped out to an early 1-0 lead just 44 seconds into the game, and they decided they weren’t going to stop there.
The second goal for the Senators came at the embarrassing expense of the Penguins, as the Pens basically scored on themselves with this upsetting own goal by Ian Cole right past Marc-Andre Fleury in net. The goal is a perfect summary of the night so far for the Penguins: a complete disappointment.
The scoring didn’t stop there, as the Senators added on two more to make the deficit 4-0 in the first period. The first two games of the series combined for four goals between the two teams, and the Senators matched that whole total in just 12:52 of Game 3.
Penguins goalie Matt Murray replaced Fleury in net after they fell behind 4-0, but it may be too little, too late for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

Meanwhile, the Senators will look to continue the onslaught, and take advantage of their first opportunity to play at home in the series. They stole Game 1 in Pittsburgh by a score of 2-1 in overtime, and could head back to Pittsburgh with the chance to end the series if they take both of their games at home.
Let’s just hope that next time, the Penguins can do exactly what they did with Cole for the Senators’ first goal of the game, but just do it on their opponent’s net rather than theirs.
