Last night against the Mariners, A’s slugger Ryon Healy broke a fan’s phone with his towering two-run blast. Oakland went on to replace the fan’s phone.

Last night against the Seattle Mariners, Ryon Healy went deep to left off of Chase De Jong in the second inning. His towering blast landed in the second deck at Safeco Field, and apparently in a fans lap. Healy’s shot came off of his bat at an incredible 112.7 mph, and traveled approximately 443 feet. No wonder it was strong enough to break the young man’s phone.

The Mariners fan, Peter Johnson, tweeted about it during the game, and the A’s twitter obliged soon after. Of course they had to give their player a shoutout first though.

After the game, the fan said that when he saw the ball coming towards him, he froze. The ball hit his pocket, destroying his phone screen. Maybe if he had his glove with him (as all fans should), the situation would have gone differently.

Regardless, the classy action by the Athletics is one of those awesome moments that sports blesses us with. The A’s offered to replace the fan’s phone, and via their Twitter account today, said that it was on its way.

Healy found a way to spoil his massive homer by letting a routine grounder skip between his legs. His error allowed two runs to come in, cutting the A’s lead to 4-3 in seventh inning. A controversial safe call on a double-play allowed the Mariners to tie it at four, going into the eighth. A Kyle Seager bomb to right saw the A’s go down by one going into the ninth, in what has become the ‘usual’ of throwing away leads.

Thankfully, the bats came alive in the ninth and Matt Joyce combined with Mark Cahna to go yard, plating five before the half-inning ended. Casilla came in to close and gave up one run, because of course he did, but the A’s still managed to win a game (a rare sight recently).
