Did Tom Brady have a concussion in 2016?
By John Buhler
Tom Brady may have quarterbacked the New England Patriots to a fifth Lombardi Trophy, but did the organization cover up him having a concussion last year?
The New England Patriots may have only lost two games all of last season during the Super Bowl LI run, but they could be in another heap of trouble before the 2017 NFL season even begins.
During an on-air interview on CBS This Morning with Charlie Rose, retired model and wife of Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, Gisele Bundchen, might have let it slip that Brady played with a concussion during the 2016 season.
Bundchen would say that her husband Brady played with a concussion and has one about every year for the last four years. The problem is that Brady has never been listed on the concussion protocol by his employer in that time. Not only is playing through a concussion bad for one’s long-term health, but the NFL cannot be happy about this.
Since we love giving NFL scandals with the “-gate” suffix attached to them, you better believe the sports world will be up in arms about Brady, the Patriots and ConcussionGate. Brady only played in 12 regular-season games last year after being suspended by the NFL for the first four due to the fallout of the DeflateGate scandal.
If evidence of Brady playing through concussions without properly being placed in the NFL’s concussion protocol does come out, this could be the third major scandal involving the Brady/Bill Belichick New England Patriots. SpyGate turned many NFL fans off the New England bandwagon. DeflateGate was dumb, but non-New England fans weren’t too thrilled about deflated footballs.

Interestingly, Brady will appear on the cover of Madden NFL 18, the G.O.A.T. Edition, at the age of 40. Could the Madden Curse be in full effect for Brady and New England? Obviously, Bundchen is looking out for the long-term health of her husband, but this covering up concussions accusation in New England could be a whole mess of bad for the Patriots.
