Miami, 6

Ted Hendricks, LB

Long before Miami became a national college football power, the Hurricanes produced Ted Hendricks, a member of the NFL 1970s and 1980s All-Decade Teams as well as the 75th Anniversary All-Time Team. Hendricks played 15 seasons in the NFL with the Colts, Packers and Raiders, and was a member of four Super Bowl-winning teams. Individually, Hendricks earned Pro Bowl recognition eight times and was a four-time first team All-Pro selection.

Michael Irvin, WR

A member of the 1987 national championship team at Miami, Michael Irvin was a first round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 1988 and gained 11,904 receiving yards with 65 touchdowns in 12 seasons with the franchise. Irvin was a five-time Pro Bowler, earned All-Pro recognition in 1991, and helped the Cowboys win three Super Bowls.

Jim Kelly, QB

Irvin and the Cowboys beat Jim Kelly’s Buffalo Bills in both Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XXVIII — two in a string of four straight losses for Kelly in football’s biggest game. After two years in the USFL, Kelly played 11 seasons for the Bills and threw for 35,467 yards and 237 touchdowns with Buffalo. Kelly was a five-time Pro Bowler and earned first-team All-Pro recognition in 1991. The Bills retired the No. 12 in his honor.

Cortez Kennedy, DL

Cortez Kennedy was selected No. 3 overall by the Seattle Seahawks in the 1990 NFL Draft after an All-American campaign with the Hurricanes. In 11 years with Seattle, Kennedy made eight Pro Bowls and was named a first-team All-Pro three times. Kennedy was also named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1992. The Seahawks retired Kennedy’s No. 96 jersey.

Jim Otto, OL

Like Hendricks, Jim Otto’s success predated Miami’s emergence as a college football blue blood. In 15 NFL seasons with the Oakland Raiders from 1960-74, Otto was named to the first team All-AFL team 10 times, earned All-Pro honors twice and was selected to the Pro Bowl three times.

Warren Sapp, DL

A first round pick by Tampa Bay in 1995, Warren Sapp spent the first nine seasons of a 13-year NFL career with the Bucs. Sapp earned Pro Bowl honors seven times with the Buccaneers, was a four-time All-Pro selection and was named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1999. Sapp and the Bucs also won Super Bowl XXXVII, and his No. 99 was later retired by the franchise.
