15 pro wrestling bookings that went horribly wrong
2. Brock Lesnar ends The Undertaker’s 21-0 WrestleMania winning streak, WrestleMania XXX
You can call this one debatable because it sent Brock Lesnar’s scare factor into another atmosphere afterwards, but booking The Beast Incarnate to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXX and end “The Streak” was the wrong call.
We can debate for days whether or not “The Streak” should’ve ever ended at all, but Lesnar shouldn’t have been the “1” in 21-1.
Here’s why Lesnar being booked to defeat The Deadman was a bad idea: what did Lesnar really gain from it? Sure, it was shocking and Lesnar eventually went on to become this unstoppable being that couldn’t feel pain throughout the rest of 2014, but he was already BRRRROCK LESNARRRRR. Giving him this honor of ending “The Streak” really did nothing for him.
If the final decision was to end this historic streak, why not give a star in the making this chance? Facing The Undertaker at WrestleMania was always an honor for anyone, but to defeat him? Give that opportunity to someone that needed this win more than Lesnar did.
Lesnar did it all during his time in WWE the first time, including beating The Undertaker in his house: Hell in a Cell. He was already a former WWE Champion and UFC Heavyweight Champion. What more did he need on his resume?
As for “The Streak” itself, it helped bring that extra vibe to WrestleMania every year that fans couldn’t wait to see. Every year, “The Streak” came closer and closer to ending. Throughout the first 21 matches, there were countless moments where you thought it was all going to end.
The debate will rage on forever as to whether or not “The Streak” should’ve ended, but one thing’s clear: Brock Lesnar shouldn’t have been booked to end it.
