11. Ready to Rumble star David Arquette pins Eric Bischoff, wins WCW Championship; WCW Thunder, 2000

Remember when we talked about how “The Fingerpoke of Doom” was the beginning of the end for WCW back in 1999? Well, in 2000, things got even worse. How? Oh, they found a way.

The “Big Gold Belt” is still one of the most recognizable titles in wrestling history, and for a brief period of time, David Arquette was the official holder of it as WCW Champion.

I did tell you it was going to get worse.

It’s bad enough that Vince Russo and Jeff Jarrett contributed to the demise of WCW, but then thinking David Arquette holding the WCW Championship would work? In what world is this a good idea? (The eventual turn from Arquette to get the title back on Jarrett was an even bigger joke.)

This is like Vince McMahon winning a company’s world title. It should never have happened, but unfortunately, WCW basically turned into TMZ and put the title to help promote the Ready to Rumble film that saw Arquette star as a WCW fanatic trying to get a former WCW Champion back on top.

WCW did a lot of dumb things before and after “The Fingerpoke of Doom” and this might have been the dumbest of the bunch. That’s high praise in the worst kind of distinction.
