Browns sign Myles Garrett to rookie deal
By John McCarty
First-overall selection Myles Garrett is officially a member of the Cleveland Browns after agreeing to a four-year contract.
Myles Garrett will not be a hold out in Cleveland. Announced on Friday, Garret has signed his four year contract worth $30.4 million, including a $20.2 million signing bonus. The Texas A&M defensive end was the consensus top player in the 2017 draft and will be penciled in as the likely starter opposite of 2016 second-round pick Emmanuel Ogbah.
If Garrett is able to produce close to expectations, his four-year contract will be a steal for the Browns. As Zach Links of Pro Football Rumors points out, the NFL market cost for veteran defensive lineman has gone through the roof in recent years, with guys like Muhammad Wilkerson, Oliver Vernon and Jason Pierre-Paul all getting over $15 million per season. Garrett becoming an impact defensive end provides Cleveland with a real bargain.
Becoming productive is something the Browns desperately need. Maligned and beset by a track record of awful drafting, Cleveland desperately needs its draft picks to start working out.
Numbers have not been released, but it should be pointed out there are contract offsets in Garrett’s deal. To put that simply, if Garrett is released prior to the conclusion of his four-year contract and signs with another team, Cleveland is only responsible for the difference in guaranteed money between what the Browns contract owes and what his contract with a new team is paying.

In what may be a first, Garrett had a ‘walk up’ song to go along with signing his contract. He certainly appears to be excited to be a member of the Browns, and the organization is hopeful to great things to come from their prized rookie.
