MLB DFS Value Plays for DraftKings and FanDuel May 19th

I’ll be looking to uncover the most obvious MLB DFS Value Plays on each slate, and each site. Value plays will generally consist of under-priced players, or players priced differently on a given site. Some values will be in play on both sites, some will only be values on one specific site. Note that value tends to carry higher ownership and may be worth a fade in specific GPP contests.

Tonight’s slate features 14 games, with Washington (5.1), Los Angeles (4.9), Detroit (4.9), and Pittsburgh (4.8), holding the best projected team totals. With expensive pitchers like Chris Sale in play tonight, finding value will be critical to success. Here are a handful of value plays on both DraftKings and FanDuel.

Matt Carpenter – STL (1B) – $4100

St.Louis will face the visiting San Francisco Giants, in a game in which the Cards are projected to score 4.7 runs. While Matt Carpenter will be forced to face a lefty, he’s much cheaper on DraftKings relative to FanDuel. Carpenter has seen improvement in his batted ball stats of late, indicating that he may be hitting the ball better than his recent scores would lead us to believe. In the last 15 days, his batted ball distance is up 34 feet, his hard hit percentage is up 16%, and his exit velocity is up 2 MPH, over his yearly averages.

Josh Reddick – HOU (OF) – $3600

Josh Reddick will draw a favorable matchup against the righty, Trevor Bauer. Reddick has found much more success against righties, with a .362 wOBA split and a .184 ISO split. The Houston outfielder is much more affordable on DraftKings, as he only costs $3600.

Kendrys Morales – TOR (1B) – $2900

Kendrys Morales is coming off of an impressive outing last night, recording 28.4 FanDuel points. If he draws the start tonight, he should offer value at this price. Morales is simply way too cheap and offers power upside for a very low price.

Dexter Fowler – STL (OF) – $3300

Dexter Fowler has been hitting the cover off of the ball and should be in another promising position tonight. Fowler will benefit from leading off, and facing a lefty. I’ll be betting that Fowler’s success continues, given his recent batted ball data. In the last 15 days, his distance is up 46 feet, his exit velocity is up 8 MPH, and his hard hit percentage is up 36%. These are some of the highest increases of any batter on the slate.

George Springer – HOU (OF) – $3600

While George Springer will face a righty, he’s still incredibly cheap at only $3600. Most of Springer’s value is derived from his position in the order, 1st, and Houston’s team total of 4.5 runs. His splits aren’t encouraging, but it may serve to drive down his ownership.
