One trade every NFL team needs to make
By Brad Weiss
The Denver Broncos have been one of the more elite defensive teams in the NFL for quite some time now, though they are starting to get up there in age. The team did a nice job in bringing in young talent via the NFL Draft, though they spent two of their top three picks on the offensive side of the ball. With question marks at quarterback, they need to make sure they stay strong on defense, and Quinton Dial would be a nice addition up front.
Dial signed a three-year extension with the team prior to last season, and is one of those players who has really yet to reach his potential. With Denver, he would be joining a veteran group that could bring him along, and his services are no longer needed in San Francisco anyway. The 49ers spent the No. 3 overall selection on Stanford defensive tackle Solomon Thomas, and all signs point to him starting up front for the team as a rookie.
In return, the 49ers would receive wide receiver Bennie Fowler, who showed flashes of solid potential last season. Denver is set at WR1 and WR2 with Emmanuel Sanders and Demaryius Thomas for the foreseeable future, so a move to San Francisco could be a solid opportunity for Fowler. The 49ers are going to struggle on offense next season, so a player like Fowler could gain some valuable experience.
This trade works for both sides, and while Denver may find itself back in the playoffs after a year off this season, San Francisco needs to keep adding young talent. San Francisco will likely bring in their future at quarterback during a QB-heavy 2018 NFL Draft next year, so having weapons ready is going to be key for whoever they bring in.
