One trade every NFL team needs to make
By Brad Weiss
The Dallas Cowboys were the darlings of the 2016 regular season, putting together the best regular season record in the NFC. Thanks to a rookie quarterback and running back, the Cowboys ran off 11 straight wins, erasing any memory of the loss of starting quarterback Tony Romo during the preseason. They have a tough schedule to navigate in 2017, and it will be interesting to see how their young, talented offensive weapons do in year two.
During the offseason, the Cowboys lost a ton of talent in their secondary, as three of their four starters jumped ship. They need help back there, and while they did draft two cornerbacks in the first three rounds in 2017 NFL Draft, they need veteran leadership. Bradley Roby of Denver would be a starter on nearly every other team, and would definitely side into a starting role in Dallas.
Chidobe Awuzie and Jourdan Lewis were nice players in college, but Lewis comes with baggage. Awuzie was a star on a Colorado defense that was one of the more pleasant surprises in college football last season, and he could start right away. The Cowboys will be going up against some elite quarterbacks in 2017, and they need to make sure they are deep in the secondary.
In exchange, the Cowboys can afford to release a third round pick in next year’s draft. The Broncos need to continue to add draft picks, as some of their star players are starting to get up there in age. Both teams could be playoff teams next season, and this move makes sense for both organizations.
