The 2017 Preakness Stakes are coming up on Saturday, May 20. Here’s a look at the full jockey list and mount for the field.

Now that the Kentucky Derby is out of the way, all of the attention in the horse racing world is on the 2017 Preakness Stakes. It will be held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on Saturday, May 20. The expected post time is 6:45 p.m. ET. This is the second leg of the Triple Crown season, following the Kentucky Derby and preceding the finale at the Belmont Stakes.

As any horse racing expert will tell you, the best horse doesn’t always win. At the end of the day, the jockey riding it ultimately determines how well it will do. A great rider can help make a horse even better while a bad one can cost it a chance at the Triple Crown.

Here’s a look at the jockey and mount list for the Preakness.

Always Dreaming will stick with John Velazquez, who helped him pull away from the field at the Kentucky Derby. Don’t sleep on Cloud Computing, as Javier Castellano might be the best jockey in the business. Corey Lanerie did a solid job with Lookin At Lee at Churchill Downs, so you can’t count him out of the race either. A sleeper pick could be Gunnevera. He did poorly in the Kentucky Derby, but he’s only failed to place three times in 10 career races. Classic Empire will definitely challenge him as well.

While it appears Always Dreaming is the clear favorite, he has some strong competitors in the field. And there are some darn good jockeys out there too.
