WWE fans last saw Jim Ross at the commentary table at WrestleMania for the main event, and they’ll see him once more at NXT TakeOver: Chicago.
Anytime Jim Ross steps back to the commentary table for any WWE event, you know it’s going to be special and give fans some extra nostalgia.
For those looking for a new J.R. fix, they’ll apparently get it during the WWE United Kingdom Championship match at NXT TakeOver: Chicago. Ross hasn’t been seen on commentary for WWE since the main event at WrestleMania 33 between The Undertaker and Roman Reigns, which (in all likelihood) turned out to be The Deadman’s last ‘Mania appearance ever.
NXT’s head honcho Triple H announced the WWE legend’s return on his Twitter account on Saturday, just hours before the WWE Network special.

Before his appearance at WrestleMania in April, Ross hadn’t called a match in the WWE since September of 2013, so his return at TakeOver will surely be welcomed by those watching on the WWE Network.
His return at WrestleMania was an emotional one for sure, as he called the match just days after the passing of his wife, Jan. In an interview with ESPN a few weeks before the big show, Ross had said it was his wife’s wish to watch him call one more match at WrestleMania, so it provided a special moment for all those watching and in attendance.

Ross will bring a lot of experience to the table, both literally and figuratively, for the big NXT event. The WWE Hall of Famer and the company seem to be on good terms after a rocky relationship following an incident in 2013.
He signed a two-year deal with WWE a little while after WrestleMania 33, and will be commentating the WWE’s Women’s Tournament this summer, so hopefully we will see a lot more J.R. on our TV screens soon.
