Taking a look at the 2017 Preakness Stakes and the list of horses participating in it.

With the 2017 Kentucky Derby out of the way, next up on the Triple Crown list is the 2017 Preakness Stakes. It is held at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. The race will be held on Saturday, May 20 with an expected post time of 6:45 p.m. ET.

Pimlico’s course is 1 3/16 miles long, or 9.5 furlongs. It’s actually a little bit shorter than the Kentucky Derby, which is a mile and a quarter in length. Traditionally, the winner of the first Triple Crown race does very well at Pimlico assuming the track conditions are similar.

Here’s a quick look at the field of horses who will be running on Saturday.

  • Multiplier
  • Cloud Computing
  • Hence
  • Always Dreaming
  • Classic Empire
  • Gunnevera
  • Term of Art
  • Senior Investment
  • Lookin At Lee
  • Conquest Mo Money

Always Dreaming, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, will look to add to his resume with another Triple Crown win. The last horse to win the Triple Crown is American Pharaoh, who did it back in 2015. However, Looking At Lee will be out for revenge after finishing second to Always Dreaming in Kentucky. So will Classic Empire, who finished fourth several Saturdays ago. Other participants who also did the Kentucky Derby include Gunnevera and Hence.

Entering Saturday, it looks like Always Dreaming will be the odds on favorite, and rightfully so. He’s been very dominant throughout his career. Always Dreaming pulled away from the pack in Kentucky despite less than ideal track conditions. He’s the fastest horse in the field.

Saturday has a lot of action going on, with horse racing going on all day. However, the main event starts at 6:45 p.m. ET. Will Always Dreaming be able to continue his pursuit of the Triple Crown? Or will someone upset him along the way?
