The 2017 Preakness Stakes will be the 142nd running of the second-leg in horse racing’s Triple Crown, but when does it all start on Saturday, May 20?

Always Dreaming is most definitely dreaming of a strong showing at the 2017 Preakness Stakes. After winning the Kentucky Derby in convincing fashion, the horse and his trainers have their sights now on the Triple Crown. Entering Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, MD on Saturday, May 20 for the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes, Always Dreaming is the favorite.

The first leg of the Triple Crown was noted for its conditions. Louisville experienced a ton of rain leading up to the race. As such, the track was muddy and beaten when they horses took to the track. Subsequently, the race was considered wide-open. Oddly enough, though, similar conditions were present for last year’s Preakness Stakes. Though there were some storms late on Friday, it’s supposed to be nice enough in 2017.

Coming off of American Pharoah’s historic run at the Triple Crown, everyone has to be thinking about Always Dreaming going on an incredible run himself. However, even in a 10-horse field, he has competition. The most notable is, of course, Classic Empire, who was among the favorites at the Derby as well. However, Classic Empire didn’t have enough to catch the winner.

With all of this and Black-Eyed Susans having been made and consumed, there’s reason to hope for an exciting day at Pimlico. However, fans not lucky enough to be in Baltimore may be wondering how they can tune in. More pressingly, they may be looking for when the 2017 Preakness Stakes starts.
