Isaiah Thomas’ series-ending hip injury may require surgery
By Ynal Al-Ouri
Isaiah Thomas may need surgery to repair his injured hip, an injury suffered during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Boston Celtics were already in a tough spot after losing the first two games of their series with the Cavs, in incredible blow-out fashion. The Celtics’ already slim chances worsened when Thomas hurt his hip, and was promptly ruled out for the rest of the playoffs.
Things can’t possibly get any worse right? Well, never say never. It’s been reported today that Thomas’ hip injury may require surgery, and it will be determined over the next few days.
MassLive reporter Jay King shared the news, and he also stated that Thomas would be meeting with specialists to help determine a course for treatment. The good news to take out of this is that Thomas will have an entire offseason to recover from this injury, but it’s still worrisome to say the least. Thomas had an incredible season where he averaged 28.9 points, 5.9 assists, and made 3.2 3-pointers per game.
He made his second NBA All-Star game appearance in the process, and also helped lead Boston to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Those are incredible numbers for any player to average, but it’s a bit more special for Thomas considering the fact that he is only 5-foot-9.
