Jinder Mahal wins WWE Championship and Twitter loses it
Jinder Mahal shocked the world at WWE Backlash 2017 on Sunday as the maharja won the WWE Championship and Twitter couldn’t believe it
There was palpable buzz surrounding Jinder Mahal even getting a shot at the WWE Championship. After he won a six-pack challenge on SmackDown Live, many people were wondering if it was a typo that he was listed as the No. 1 Contender. It wasn’t, though. And on Sunday night, he got his shot at the belt against Randy Orton.
As you’d expect with two enhanced chiseled athletes such as Orton and Mahal, they beat the mess out of each other in Chicago. The match was hard-hitting and brutal — even before the bell ever rang. Also unsurprisingly, the Singh Brothers played a very big role in the match. In fact, their presence may have ultimately decided the outcome.
After laying them both out on the outside, Orton wanted to inflict more damage. He brought the Singh Brothers up to the apron and hit a double-hanging DDT. While he was doing this, though, Jinder came to and snuck up behind. He got the then-champ in the standing Camel Clutch and then hit a massive Khallas as his finisher for the win.
That’s right, Jinder Mahal is now WWE Champion. Eat your heart out — and naturally, many did eat their hearts out on Twitter.
Here’s what the good folks of Twitter had to say about The Maharaja winning the title at WWE Backlash on Sunday:
