Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has eighth eye surgery
Unfortunately, Minnesota’s head honcho keeps having issues with his eye.
The NFL is a demanding league, and that means it requires a lot of time out of its players and coaches. Availability tends to be the most important factor for those who participate. Usually health involves those actually playing on the field, but not in this case. Via ESPN, Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer has been having difficulties with his right eye since October. This past week, Zimmer underwent an eighth procedure. The original problem was a detached retina in his right eye, and this led to the coach having to miss a game last fall.
Zimmer’s recent surgery involved replacing an oil bubble within his eye with a gas one. The coach was under the impression this would all be solved by now, but he remains hopeful that this was the final procedure. However, he did acknowledge that he thought previous solutions would solve the problem for good. We can all wish the best for Coach Zimmer’s health as the 2017 season approaches. I’m sure the Vikings do not want to see anyone else roam the sidelines come September. Perhaps the hardest part of this has been the constant attention ZImmer has needed medically. Of course it is priority number one, but as a head coach of an NFL team, you need all the time you can get to make your team better each day.

The outlook for the Vikings in 2017 is rather interesting. After a hot start last year, it all amounted to because of a tough collapse down the stretch. Adrian Peterson is gone, Sam Bradford remains, and Minnesota still plays in Aaron Rodgers’ division. It will be no easy task for the Vikings to remain competitive amongst the NFC landscape. Time will tell as always, but first and foremost, their coach needs to be healthy.
