Former New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis will not face any penalties from the NFL from an incident in February after assault chargers were dropped.
After being charged with felony assault charges in February, former cornerback Darrelle Revis will not face penalties from NFL. The changes filed against Revis were dropped after investigation by law enforcement.
In February, Revis was charged with four felonies after an altercation in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Police officials released a stated saying that the changes after cellphone video showed the NFL star fighting with two men, who were unconscious. The incident stemmed from a verbal altercation, allegedly instigated by the young men. Revis was arrested at that time.
The Jets released the seven-time Pro Bowl player on March 9. In a court appearance later that month, the presiding judge decided to dismiss the case. Witness testimony from one of Revis’s longtime friends proclaimed Revis was defending himself.
After continuing to review the incident, NFL officials have decided to not penalize Revis.
Revis, 31, is now a free agent and with the threat of penalty from the NFL no longer in play, teams may be making contact about signing him. When released by the Jets, Revis just completed year two of a five-year, $70 million contract. The team still owes him $6 million in guaranteed money.
While no statement has been made, a grievance filing may be in order. Since the release from the Jets stemmed from a now-dismissed case, Revis could ask for the rest of his contract to be paid.
