After winning Game 5, the Nashville Predators are one win away from eliminating the Anaheim Ducks and advancing to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

After winning Game 5, 3-1 the Nashville Predators are one win away from advancing to their first Stanley Cup Final. The Predators will have the luxury of playing in front of their loyal fans with a chance to eliminate the Anaheim Ducks. Throughout the playoffs, the Bridgestone Arena has been one of the NHL’s loudest arenas. With the chance to go to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history, the fan base will likely be the loudest they have ever been.

The Ducks are fighting off elimination and fighting the injury bug. Prior to Game 5, Rickard Rakell was a late scratch. After the first period, Anaheim was forced to change goalies after an injury to John Gibson. Gibson, Rakell, and Patrick Eaves could all be available for Anaheim in Game 6 but are not locks to play.

Nashville is dealing with its own injury problems. The Predators are without leading scoring Ryan Johansen for the rest of the playoffs after undergoing surgery. After taking a knee to the head, Predators captain Mike Fisher missed Game 5 and his status for Monday’s game is unclear. Losing two of their top three centers did not hurt the Predators in Game 5 but it could catch up with them in Game 6. Frederick Gaudreau drew into the lineup for his tenth career NHL game. Gaudreau was excellent on face-offs winning 10 of 14.

The Predators top-four defense and Pekka Rinne have been fantastic throughout the playoffs. If the Ducks are going to force Game 7 they need to have a better forecheck against the Predators’ defense. Anaheim needs to be more physical with the Nashville defense and reduce the amount of time they have. The Ducks need to get more bodies in front of Rinne and crash the net for rebounds.
