There are only 30 pairs left of the “Macho Man” Limited Edition Chuck Taylors!
By Tim Ryan
Randy Savage is by far one of the most popular WWE wrestlers of all time and now you can pay tribute to his greatness on your feet with some “Macho Man” Chuck Taylors.
The cutthroat world that is the sneaker business will always have the major players looking for that extra edge against their tireless competitors.
Whether it be a special collaboration with a celebrity who has a wide-ranging reach or simply a big brand, this practice has become more commonplace with each passing day. The more unexpected it is, the better.
For example, as recently as mid-March, the WWE and Puma announced a WrestleMania-inspired sneaker, complete with Undertaker insoles and a casket shoe box. The price of the sneaker ranged from $199 to $499.
It was as hilarious and insane as it was brilliant. Wrestling fans eat this kinda stuff up like the George “The Animal” Steele ate turnbuckle stuffing.
So what now?
Well, now Converse has teamed up with Pro Wrestling Tees for a limited edition “Macho Man” Randy Savage version of the timeless Chuck Taylor shoe, officially licensed by the late wrestler’s family and estate.
According to the Pro Wrestling Tees site, only 200 pairs have been made, so it’s an instant collector’s item for the wrestling-obsessed and in 25 years could probably sell for a healthy chunk of change.
The only problem is that they’re currently going for $175, which is a relatively maniacal asking price for a flimsy, uncomfortable pair of Chuck Taylors that happen to look like THIS.
Considering there were just 200 pairs to begin with and the pre-order began this past Friday at 12 pm CT and there are still 30 pairs left, it’s safe to say you should only buy them if you plan on actually wearing them.
For those going that route, here are a few suggestions on where to bust out the highly colorful Macho Man Converse:
- Monday Night RAW
- Tuesday Night Smackdown
- Parent/Teacher night
- Any and all weddings
- While fending off some local street toughs
- Mother’s Day brunch
- Your high school reunion
- Mother’s Day dinner
- An interview
- To bed
- When you’re walking down the grassy aisle at a backyard wrestling match
For the dizzying array of reactions alone, they might just be worth $175 after all.
