The Cleveland Browns signed their No. 1 pick this weekend and the top pick in the 2017 NFL Draft got big money to sign on the dotted line.
Throughout the 2017 NFL Draft season, Texas A&M defensive end Myles Garrett was considered the consensus No. 1 overall pick. So when the Browns handed their card to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, there was not much surprise when he read Garrettās name. This weekend, Garrett signed his rookie deal with the team, a contract worth $30.4 million for four years.
Meanwhile, in Florida
Veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick struggled through a horrific 2016 NFL season, losing his grip on the starting job for the lowly New York Jets. One year removed from a career year for the team, Fitzpatrick was let go after his one-year deal was finished, but managed to latch on elsewhere this weekend. Fitz signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to be Jameis Winstonās backup, giving the upstart Bucs a solid veteran presence backing one of the better quarterbacks in the NFC.
Youāre not the only one working on your core this summer
Dontrelle Inman had a stellar season for the then-San Diego Chargers last year, hauling in 58 catches for over 800 yards receiving. Due to a Week 1 injury to star wide out Keenan Allen, Inman got a ton of reps and showed that he can be quite the playmaker at times. Unfortunately, he will miss six weeks due to core surgery, but is expected to be back with the team in time for training camp, as the Bolts look to have a successful first season in Los Angeles in 2017.
Itās still cold in the D
Moving from current wide receivers to a retired one, the breakup between Calvin Johnson and the Detroit Lions took a weird twist this weekend. The franchise leader in receptions (731), receiving yards (11,619) and receiving touchdowns (83) was asked by the Detroit Free Press whether he felt his No. 81 would be retired by the team, and he explained that there is still some animosity there. Johnson said that he did not like the way he was treated at the end of his tenure with the team, which may include the over $300,000 he had to pay back to the team after he retired.

Now for something funny
Finally, in a funny story out of Iowa, it appears getting a retweet by Aaron Rodgers is all you need to have your final exam canceled. Peyton Meyer was told by his teacher, Laura Roberts, that if he could get Rodgers to retweet him, the class would have their sports literature final canceled. Well, Rodgers did in fact retweet Meyer and Roberts made good on her promise, canceling the test.
