11. Charlotte — Wilt Chamberlain

The Charlotte Hornets already have a lot of centers, but how can you pass on a guy that scored 100 points in a game? The team that turned down a haul of picks to draft Frank Kaminsky probably thinks it’s impossible to not take Wilt Chamberlain, so he goes to Charlotte at 11th overall.

Wilt’s numbers are … complicated. It’s true that Wilt scored 100 points and averaged 50.4 points and 25.7 rebounds over a single season, but how much do those numbers really mean? Does it matter than the competition was largely trash, or that Wilt (or The Big O) missed out on an MVP award in his finest statistical seasons because Bill Russell was a better teammate and won more?

Maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t, but the Hornets can’t get good enough to compete with other teams at 11th overall, so this way at least Charlotte can do lots of promos involving the number 100, which is nice for them.

On the bright side, Wilt was a freakish athlete, who should do well even in an era with different rules and far less factory workers. He also won two rings and four MVP awards, and averaged 30.1 points, 22.9 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game for the duration of his career.

Chamberlain is no slouch, both on or off of the floor, apparently. He may not be the most dedicated player or the most selfless teammate, but at least Kemba Walker will finally have somebody with real talent on the roster alongside him.
