NBA All-Time Mock Draft: Which NBA legends would get picked by teams right now?
By Ti Windisch
12. Detroit — Karl Malone
The Detroit Pistons have some talent on their roster, but most of their players are wildly inconsistent. Karl Malone is the opposite of that. Malone averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds per game 10 times in his 19-season career, and averaged at least 20 and seven in seven other seasons.
So, basically, you knew what you’re getting with The Mailman. He never managed to deliver a ring to the Utah Jazz despite dominating there with John Stockton for a long time, but as mentioned with Barkley, it was tough to win them in the Jordan era.
It’s a testament to how good Malone was that he’s going one spot earlier in the NBA All-Time Draft than he did in his actual NBA draft. The Pistons are going old-school with a Malone-Andre Drummond front line, but those two should make things interesting on both ends of the floor.
Malone will probably pull a David West and dip to some contender for the last season of his career, but in all honesty that move should originally be named after Mailman, who spent his last NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers back in 2004. His ring-chasing didn’t work out too well, as Malone never won one despite being one of the best power forwards ever.
Malone’s standing as a citizen might be murky, but hey, at least he’s good at putting a basketball into a hoop. That’s something the Pistons could use after their highly disappointing 2016-17 season.
