NBA All-Time Mock Draft: Which NBA legends would get picked by teams right now?
By Ti Windisch
19. Atlanta — Scottie Pippen
Speaking of teams who could use some help on the wings, with Kyle Korver now in Cleveland and Kent Bazemore struggling the Atlanta Hawks could really use another talented swingman. In Scottie Pippen, the Hawks get a perfect three for Mike Budenholzer’s system.
Another older player who at least attempted using the three-ball, Pippen has a case as the greatest perimeter defender of all time and was no slouch on offense either. For a team like the Hawks that won 60 games a few years ago with more teamwork than star power, Pippen is an ideal fit.
In his 17-year NBA career, Pippen averaged 16.1 points, 6.4 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.8 blocks per game. He shot 47.3 percent from the field and 32.6 percent from 3-point territory. Pippen found a way to fit with Michael Jordan perfectly, which likely wasn’t easy considering some of the stories out there about Jordan’s competitiveness.
With a new starting lineup of Dennis Schroder, Tim Hardaway, Pippen, Paul Millsap and anybody-but-Dwight Howard, the Hawks could get back to their identity of selflessness and ball movement. Pairing a good center with that group would give the Hawks the most talented lineup they’ve had in some time.
Despite some ball-dominant star players remaining at this spot, it just feels right for Atlanta to take Pippen here. The Hawks might not be ready to contend in the near future, but they can stay true to themselves without having to tear down their roster.
