21. Oklahoma City — Elgin Baylor

The Oklahoma City Thunder thought they were getting a running mate for Russell Westbrook when they traded for Victor Oladipo, but unfortunately Oladipo didn’t step up into that role last season. Instead, he served as one of many watchers, taking in the excellence that was Westbrook all season long without adding much of his own game to the mix.

Elgin Baylor is no second fiddle. The first overall pick back in 1958 spent two years with the Minneapolis Lakers before the team’s move to Los Angeles in 1960. Despite standing just 6-foot-5, Baylor put up big man numbers in his long Lakers tenure.

Baylor averaged 27.4 points, 13.5 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game in his 14-year career. Some of the individual seasons that he managed are nearly unbelievable–in the 1961-62 season, Baylor averaged 38.3 points, 18.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game on a whopping 33.1 shots per game.

The craziest part about that season? Baylor only played 48 games, not because of injury, but because he was serving in the United States Army. He could only play for the Lakers when he flew home on a weekend pass. That postseason, he set an NBA Finals record with a 61-point game.

Baylor and Westbrook might combine for 75 points per game if they played together. The two stars both love one thing — getting buckets — and they’re both damn good at it. Playing off of each other would mean both players could occasionally rest, meaning they’d both be ready to wreak havoc in the NBA Playoffs.
