The Golden State Warriors have ran through the Western Conference playoff gauntlet 12-0, but without head coach Steve Kerr. Kerr now is stating that coaching in the NBA Finals is still uncertain.
Life has been good to the Golden State Warriors the past three seasons. An NBA title in 2015, a 73-9 record last season catapulted made them perhaps America’s most popular sports team and the acquisition of Kevin Durant for this season has the team enjoying the fruits of their labor. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are considered to be three of the NBA’s best players.
But setbacks have come, too. The Warriors 73-9 team last season were upset by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals and head coach Steve Kerr has been plagued with back problems. The back issue, which caused him to miss the first half of the NBA season last year, has caused him to miss the bulk of this season’s playoffs.
With the NBA Finals ahead for the Warriors, having their head coach back could possibly mean everything for the team. But Kerr is stating, according to ESPN’s The Undefeated Marc J. Spears, that he’s not sure if he would be able to coach in the Finals.
Warriors assistant coach Mike Brown has done a brilliant job filling in for Kerr. Brown, who has had past success with the Cavaliers and the Los Angeles Lakers, has perhaps made himself an NBA coaching candidate in the future. But Kerr returning would perhaps give the Warriors the comfort needed to win another NBA championship.
But the Warriors recent success shows the power of the culture Kerr installed. Brown has done a fabulous job steering the ship, but Kerr’s magic would perhaps benefit the Warriors more in June.
