WWE COO Triple H took to Twitter to announce the Mae Young Classic, the name of the 32-woman tournament coming to July at Full Sail University.
Back in April, Triple H announced that a 32-woman tournament would be taking place over the upcoming summer in WWE.
That tournament now has a name and it’s named after one of the iconic females in the history of professional wrestling. The Mae Young Classic will take place on July 13 and 14 from Full Sail University.
Full Sail, the home of the NXT brand and the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, FL, has hosted NXT TakeOver events in the past, the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic under the NXT brand and the Cruiserweight Classic last year.
Here’s The Game himself with the official word on the tournament’s name on Twitter.

The beloved Johnnie Mae Young, who passed away over three years ago in January 2014, was synonymous with women’s wrestling. From her earlier days in the National Wrestling Alliance to taking a Bubba Ray Dudley powerbomb through a table in World Wrestling Federation, Mae was truly one of a kind and nothing short of a wonderful woman.
The tournament, which will probably be of the Cruiserweight Classic mold that was saw last year (won by TJ Perk … er, TJP), will featured 32 of the best female superstars in pro wrestling today. WWE hasn’t been shy on featuring new talent under their brand with the CWC and the United Kingdom Tournament earlier this year that saw Tyler Bate become the inaugural champion.
There’s been no official word as to who will be performing in the tournament, but from the sounds of things, it could be featuring women that you may already know in WWE/NXT and some that you don’t know.
Even without knowing who the 32-women field is, you can expect some big names to appear because when WWE does a tournament, they don’t hold back.
