The Chicago Cubs take to the road after a nine-game home stand. Their destination is the west coast. So why not dress like Anchorman?
They’re kind of a big deal. People know them. And now they are taking their show on the road in style. And not just any style. Anchorman is the theme of this trip.
Per their tradition, the Chicago Cubs dress in a theme on road trips. Many of us will remember Jake Arrieta’s mustache onesie in 2015 and then the players donning tacky suits for a trip in 2016. And they have done studies. Sixty percent of the time, these themed trips work every time. While they may not love lamp or smell like a turd wrapped in burnt hair, they’re sure to like Anchorman.
The cast of characters is represented well.

In true Cubs fashion, the team embraces the theme with the fervent passion of the best jazz flutist. Before we dive into the pictures, we should cover the ground rules for the trip:

The team fully embraced the theme. No, there were no tridents or grenades, but Brian Duensing brought the right cologne. And while many of the players styled things right, the coaches looked like they purchased their clothes from the toilet store.

Champ Kind made an appearance. Twice. John Lackey may be all business on the mound, but he is also about having some fun. Meanwhile, Kyle Schwarber is standing there saying, “you gotta take home plate from me.”

The timing of the theme is no surprise. After the Cubs took care of business with the San Francisco Giants, they now travel for three games each against the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres. After a slow start leaving fans in a glass case of emotion, the Cubs have won seven of their last 10. They now sit atop the NL Central.
