No. 10: Pete and Penny of Youngstown State

Name of Show: Tressel’s Penguins

Network: Nick Toons

Voiceover By: Dave Franco (Pete), Alison Brie (Penny)

If you’re looking for a family-friendly show to watch, then look no further than Tressel’s Penguins. For beginners, it’s an easy show to follow, since a real-life couple, Dave Franco and Alison Brie, would be playing the characters. That sort of recruitment provides natural chemistry, which also develops a healthy atmosphere. That said, Tressel’s Penguins would follow the lives of those two as they face aquatic life head-on.

The back story to each of them is relatively traditional: Pete’s in business meetings all day and Penny’s swallowed up in the duties as a housewife. It may seem like there’s nothing but lateral movement, but both Pete and Penny were born into different families. Pete, the supportive husband he is, grew up around parents that called themselves “show penguins.” And, because of that, Pete was always on the move, finding peace in temporary living. On the other hand, Penny was the daughter to two penguins, who kept falling ill, so she was constantly at home, caring for them.

As their stories unfold, Pete and Penny eventually agree to start a family. The place they shack up in isn’t up to code, but with the help from one another, they end up prospering and making the most of it. Tressel’s Penguins centers around the institution of family and having to trek through some hard times together, while savoring the better moments. During those times, it’s important for a family to come together and form character with one another.

(If you’re wondering, Jim Tressel is the President at Youngstown State. Hence the name Tressel’s Penguins.)
