Michael Conlan stops Alfredo Chanez in the third round to win his second professional fight.

In the second professional fight of his career, Ireland’s Michael Conlan fought Mexico’s Alfredo Chanez at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. An Irish crowd made its presence felt in support of the Olympian.

Here is a play-by-play of the action.

Round 1: Conlan opens the fight in the center, Chanez circling on the outside. Conlan was standing tall, Chanez was dropping levels to get to the body. Chanez slipped and got up. Chanez lunged with a left hook and Conlan countered. Chanez lands a right hook, Conlan counters with left jabs. Conlan lands an uppercut to Chanez in the corner to drop his opponent. Chanez gets up, Conlan pens with right cross and an uppercut. Chanez is on the ropes and Conlan is picking his shots. Chanez escapes to the left, Conlan continues to pour it on. Chanez is backed into the corner and Conlan unloads a flurry. Chanez fights out of the corner, Conlan backs him down with a  right hook. Conlan backs Chanez back into the corner and goes to work with a right hook. Chanez runs to his left to escape and then eats an upper hook as he re-engages. FanSided Score: 10-8

Round 2: Conlan is the aggressor coming out of the gate. He is switching stances. Conlan is chasingChanezaround the ring and landing combination after combination. Chanez leans in with his head out in a taunting fashion to indicate he is ok. Conlan counters with a right hook. The fight gets stopped because of a low blow. Chanez is milking it on the ground and the crowd is booing relentlessly. The fight starts and Conlan comes out with the jab. He quickly backs Chanez against the ropes and lands a big right. Conlan continues to lead with the jab and follow with the right cross as Chanez leans against the ropes. FanSided Score: 10-9 Conlan

Round 3: Chanez opens with a left and calls for a blow to the back of the head. The ref briefly stops the fight. Conlan backs him down against the ropes and works between the body and head. Chanez is resigned to clinching when Conlan pushes forward to stop Conlan’s relentless attack. Conlan drops Chanez with a kidney shot as he leans forward into Conlan. The referee stops the fight and Conlan wins. The official record is a TKO win for Conlan at 2:59 of the third round.
