DraftKings Early MLB Picks For May 28

11 of the 15 games are early today, which makes the early tournament the larger one, and there are plenty of aces to choose from. Who is worth paying for? Where are the bargain hitters? Let’s check out some past stats for help!

More from DFS

The money line in the early lineups was at 103.85. My lineup with Brian Johnson finished in the money. The other one finished nine points out because of the struggles of Yu Darvish.

The winning lineup was all the way up to 193.6 DraftKings points. He had Stephen Strasburg along with Johnson, so that was 89.6 points from pitchers alone! He also had big time value from Josh Phegley and Eddie Rosario to take down the tournament.

These picks are based mostly on statistical analysis . If you have a gut feeling, then by all means, follow that. This is not an exact science. The best lineups usually have a mix of proven stats and hot players. Check out this post from Matt McGarvey for great tips about whether to use a hot player in DFS or not.

May 15, 2017; Phoenix, AZ, USA; Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Yasmany Tomas hits a three run home run in the eighth inning against the New York Mets at Chase Field. Mandatory Credit: Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

P: Lance McCullers ($10,100):Ā McCullers has by far the best past stats going this afternoon. The Orioles are hitting just .128 against him in 39 at bats with the only extra base hit being a Mark Trumbo home run. He also has a whopping 21 strikeouts in those 39 at bats. McCullers is worth paying for this afternoon.

P: Alex Cobb ($7,400):Ā The Twins are so young that they don’t have much of a history against Cobb. They are just 2-8 against him as a team with a strikeout and a run scored. What has me taking him here is the fact that Cobb has gone at least six innings in every May start, and he is being gifted a win facing Kyle Gibson, who is arguably the worst pitcher in the majors this year.

C: Christian Vazquez ($2,900):Ā Bergman has struggled mightily in the majors this year, posting a 6.30 ERA in four starts. However, like Jhoulys Chacin, Bergman has staggering home/road splits. He has two starts each. He posted a 0.82 ERA at home and a 13.00 ERA on the road. I’m stacking Red Sox again! It’s bound to work one of these times!

1B: Logan Morrison ($4,200):Ā The Rays are hitting .339 against Gibson in 59 career at bats, and Gibson sports an atrocious 8.62 ERA on the season. I don’t really care that this is a pitcher’s park or that the current Rays have never hit a home run against Gibson. Tampa should score a load of runs today, and I want a lot of exposure to their lineup.

2B: Dustin Pedroia ($4,400):Ā Pedroia got a hit in his return to the lineup yesterday. I had to go a little cheaper on hitters to upgrade to McCullers, so I had to leave Mookie Betts out of the stack even though I didn’t want to. I will still get plenty of exposure though. The Red Sox look primed to explode again.

3B: Evan Longoria ($3,700):Ā Longoria is 4-13(.308) with a walk, a double, and four RBI in his career against Kyle Gibson. That is the best past stats for the Rays save the huge numbers the injured Brad Miller has on him, but most wont follow the stats. Most will just see his 8.62 ERA. That is plenty of evidence to support a stack.

SS: Xander Bogaerts ($4,900):Ā Bogaerts is as high as I am going in this lineup. He continued his hot streak with another hit, run, and RBI yesterday. Bogaerts should have no problems getting something this afternoon.

OF: Corey Dickerson ($4,600):Ā Dickerson is batting leadoff against a struggling right hander who even when he was on, didn’t have a lot of upside. The Rays will be crossing the plate early and often on Gibson, so I definitely want their leadoff man!

OF: Yasmany Tomas ($4,100):Ā Tomas has not been kind to Jimmy Nelson so far in his career. Tomas is 3-9 with two homers, three runs scored, and six RBI already. He could have another huge game at Miller Park, especially if the roof is closed.

OF: Justin Upton ($3,600):Ā Upton is 4-7 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs scored, and three RBI already against Miguel Gonzalez. Gonzalez is sporting a 4.55 ERA on the season, so the Tigers coule be an underused stack this afternoon.

DraftKings
May 17, 2017; Anaheim, CA, USA; Los Angeles Angels pitcher Matt Shoemaker (52) delivers a pitch against the Chicago White Sox during a MLB baseball game at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Mandatory Credit: Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

P: Matt Shoemaker ($9,400):Ā Shoemaker is pitching in a pitcher’s park against a team that doesn’t have a whole lot of power to speak of anyway. The Marlins don’t have much of a history off of him, but in 12 at bats, they have managed just one hit, a single by Marcell Ozuna. On top of that, they have struck out inĀ halfĀ of those at bats! There is definite value potential here today.

P: Joe Ross ($7,800):Ā Ross pitched well in his first start back in the majors last weekagainst a struggling Seattle offense. This time around he gets a San Diego team that wont strike fear into any pitchers either. l wouldn’t count on another 30 spot from Ross today, but 20-25 is a good possibility.

C: Salvador Perez ($3,500):Ā Perez will be in the lineup in some capacity today. He is 17-32(.531) with eight doubles, a homer, four runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Josh Tomlin. Tomlin is a fly ball pitcher who has had trouble keeping balls in Progressive Field so far this year. He has allowed six home runs in just 23 home innings this year. That has contributed to his stunningly awful 8.22 ERA at home. Stack some Royals! They’re cheap!

1B: Ryan Zimmerman ($4,500):Ā Zimmerman is 5-16(.312) with two walks, a double, two homers, three runs scored, and five RBI in his career against Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin still sports a ghastly 10.94 ERA on the road, so if you can afford it while finding good enough pitching, stack Nationals!

2B: Yangervis Solarte ($2,800):Ā So my explanation for this is I ran out of money. However, Solarte does have the only Padres RBI against Joe Ross, and he is batting cleanup at a price point where other second basemen either don’t play at all, or bat eighth or ninth. I will take my chances with Solarte, even against my pitcher.

3B: Mike Moustakas ($3,700):Ā Moose is 7-20 with two walks, three doubles, two homers, six runs scored, and six RBI in his career against Josh Tomlin. The price is definitely right here. If I trusted any other Royals hitters besides Moustakas and Salvador Perez, I would employ a stack.

SS:Ā Trea Turner ($4,900):Ā Did I mention Jhoulys Chacin’s staggering home and road splits? Good, because they are worth mentioning again. Turner will be leading off for an offense that could score a lot of runs this afternoon. I definitely want him in my lineup!

OF: Billy Hamilton ($5,000):Ā Much like Turner, Hamilton is leading off for a team that could score quite a few runs this afternoon. Zach Eflin has a 5.36 ERA on the season, and it is half a run higher at home. Hamilton has a great shot at a run or two and some steals this afternoon.

OF: Cameron Maybin ($4,700):Ā Maybin has not been held scoreless on DraftKings since his move to the leadoff role. He is hitting .429 with two homers and a steal in his nine games atop the Angels order. Until someone proves they can get him out, Maybin is worth sending out there, even in a noted pitcher’s park.

OF: Jayson Werth ($3,700):Ā You know, I look and see that Jayson Werth has yet to hit a home run against Jhoulys Chacin, and it comes across as a little bit disappointing. What is not disappointing is that Werth is 5-12 with two walks, two doubles, and two runs scored with a team best .471 wOBA against Chacin.
