An anonymous Cavaliers player has called out JaVale McGee for his bone-headed plays, but will this backfire on the Cavs?

The Cavaliers just gave the Warriors a juicy headline to motivate them heading into the trilogy. With the NBA Finals set to start on Thursday, JaVale McGee is the butt of the joke, and any storyline heading into the third straight meeting between the Warriors and Cavs is a compelling one.

On a recent episode of the ESPN’s The Basketball Analogy Show (via DefPen.com), Dave McMenamin told Brian Windhorst that one Cavs player doesn’t think McGee is ready to shine in the Finals.

"“I had a Cavs player disagree with your opinion of McGee, Brian. He postulated to me that he doesn’t even think McGee’s gonna be able to get on the court or certainly not stay on the court because he doesn’t think he’s quote, unquote ‘smart enough’ to be able to play in this series.”"

McGee will likely draw his fair share of assignments on Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love heading into the much-anticipated Finals. Golden State has not lost a game this postseason and McGee has been a fantastic rim protector as Andrew Bogut simply hasn’t been missed. The Warriors are 26.3 points better PER 100 possessions with McGee on the floor during the playoffs.

McGee has averaged 7.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game while only playing 10.5 minutes a night. McGee and Zaza Pachulia have shared the center role for the Warriors.

McGee is currently playing on a one-year deal worth just $1,403 million which is the veteran minimum contract. McGee, 29, will likely get a much larger offer via free agency this offseason. His role off the bench will go a long way into helping the Warriors capture their second championship the last three years.
